Maui Fair Pie Contest

Please note:

  1. Your participation is not guaranteed until approved by Maui Fair Alliance. We contact you with confirmation and information.
  2. Each entry will receive 2 admission passes to the Maui Fair and 1 Unloading pass.
  3. Event begins at 12:00 p.m., judging for “OPEN” category will commence at 12:30 p.m., and conclude with awards approximately at 2:30 p.m.
  4. Grand Prize is a 2 night Maui Stay-Cation and $250 cash.
  5. At no time shall “Open Category” entries be made available for consumption to the general public.

OPEN Category

  • Contestants will NOT be professional cooks or chefs
  • All entries are welcomed.
  • All entries will be prepared off-site.
  • A minimum of (1) Pie shall be prepared for judging.
  • Contestants shall provide their own displays, utensils, food containers, etc., for use at the fairgrounds.
  • Host will provide judging table for pies to be displayed.
  • Host will provide sampling bowls, utensils and paper goods to contestants for judge sampling.
  • Event begins at 12:00 p.m., judging for “OPEN” category will commence at 12:00 p.m., and conclude with awards approximately at 2:00 p.m.
  • Contestants will provide approximately 1pie for the judges panel.
  • Judging criteria:
    • Taste – the taste should consist of the combination of any ingredients. Does it make you want more?
    • Consistency – Pie must have a good ratio between crust and filling. It should not be dry, watery, grainy, lumpy or greasy.
    • Looks – does it look appetizing?
    • Color – does it look appetizing?
    • Taste – mouthwatering?
    • A single grand prize of an overnight stay on Maui and $250 in cash.
    • At no time shall “Open Category” entries be made available for consumption to the general public.

 

Chef Category

  • All recipes are welcomed.
  • Entries shall be approximately 9″. ( Allow sampling to the general public for voting)
  • Each Chef must submit 2 pies.
  • Pies may be prepared ahead of time off-site, at respective certified kitchens.
  • Contestants will provide their own utensils, cooking element, etc.
  • Host will provide sampling containers and utensils to chef contestants.
  • Event is Saturday, October 7th starting at 12:00 p.m. Contestants will bring their entries to the Entertainment tent at 11:30am.
  • Chefs will make available samples to the general public. The general public will have a voting ballot for “People’s Choice” award.
  • “People’s Choice” award of $150.00 will be awarded to the chef that receives the most votes by the general public.
